It's not certain how common EILO is, but research shows its prevalence is around 5% to 7% among adolescents, compared with around 8% who have asthma. Young athletes are especially hard-hit. De almindelige metoder at påvise astma på, har ikke kunne bruges til at påvise Eilo og den mest effektive metode til at påvise Eilo er, at man med får et kamera igennem næsen ned i halsen og så lave forskellige belastnings tests.

Two conditions could be the culprit: exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) or exercise-induced asthma. EILO is a less common condition that causes similar symptoms to exercise-induced asthma. But EILO won’t respond to the same treatments. That’s why it’s important to understand the difference and get a correct diagnosis. Many diagnosed with asthma may actually have EILO.
